Jetfire is a patented approach to active turbulent jet ignition configured in a discrete unit cartridge. With its innovative pre-chamber air control, Jetfire is able to robustly ignite highly dilute stochiometric mixtures under very high compression. Combustion is stochiometric thus standard 3-way catalyst after-treatment is possible. The combustion system is applicable to liquid and gaseous fuels, including hydrogen. The cartridge is comprised of industry standard components and easily integrated into an engine's cylinder head.
The key benefit of Jetfire is in thermal efficiency. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is used to dilute the main chamber charge, which provides both thermal advantages as well as knock resistance. The Jetfire III prototype has demonstrated EGR levels of up to 50% under a compression ratio of 13.3:1 and delivered ITE (Indicated Thermal Efficiency) levels of 44% to 48%, depending on fuels. The patented pre-chamber air control allows Jetfire to surpass both passive and active competing forms of TJI
